Researchers at the University Of Southern California, School Of Dentistry release results of clinical data that links oral bisphosphonates to increased jaw necrosis. The study is among the first to acknowledge that even short-term use of common oral osteoporosis drugs may leave the jaw vulnerable to devastating necrosis, according to a new report.

Fluoride No Benefit to Poor, Studies Show (Lincoln News Messenger)
Even when fluoridated water is the most consumed item, cavities are extensive in low-income Americans when their diets are bad, according to Caries Research.
Burt and colleagues studied low-income African-American adults, 14-years-old and over, living in Detroit, Michigan, where water suppliers add fluoride chemicals attempting to prevent cavities. Yet, 83% of this population has severe tooth decay with diets high in sugars and fats, and low in fruits and vegetables.
“The most frequently reported food on a daily basis was [fluoridated] tap water,” write Burt’s research team. Second were soft drinks and third were potato chips.
Tooth decay in fluoridated Detroit’s toddlers’ teeth is also shocking. Almost all of Detroit’s five-year-olds have cavities; most of them go unfilled.
Hospital-Borne Pneumonia Can Be Prevented by Toothbrushing (Medical News Today)
“Pneumonia is a big problem in hospitals everywhere, even in the developed world,” says Nurse Ofra Raanan, the chief researcher in the new study and a lecturer at Tel Aviv University’s Department of Nursing. “Patients who are intubated can be contaminated with pneumonia only 2 or 3 days after the tube is put in place. But pneumonia can be effectively prevented if the right measures are taken.”
Raanan, who works at the Sheba Academic School of Nursing at The Chaim Sheba Medical Center, collaborated with a team of nurses at major medical centers around Israel. The nurses found that if patients – even unconscious ones – have their teeth brushed three times a day, the onset of pneumonia can be reduced by as much as 50%.
