Some kind of incentive is usually needed to encourage regular toothbrushing and other good oral hygiene habits. For kids, it can be something as simple as having a really cool toothbrush – one that features images of their favorite TV or movie characters, say, or that lights up or sparkles or plays music.
Now Dr. Fresh – an oral health products manufacturer – is asking kids themselves to design their own hyper-cool toothbrush for their annual “Be a Dental Inventor” contest: “a toothbrush,” according to the company’s media release, “so much fun to use that kids would brush their teeth without a single reminder from Mom or Dad.”
The contest is open to kids in second through fifth grades, who are asked “to invent, design, and submit a drawing of their fantasy toothbrush and explain why they think it will appeal to other kids.”
First prize? A $500 savings bond and a trip to Southern California, two tickets for Disneyland and a visit to Dr. Fresh’s headquarters in Buena Park.
Two runners-up will each receive a $250 savings bond.
The contest deadline is January 24, 2010. Complete rules and submission guidelines are available at the Dr. Fresh website.
