Stat!: If Food Is Our Medicine, No Wonder So Many of Us Are Sick

Let food be your medicine. – Hippocrates

Amount of fruit the average American eats each day as a percent of the amount recommended by the USDA: 40 percent

Amount of dairy: 60

Vegetables: 80

Meat: 120

Grains: 130

Source: Grist

And according to a short item in the New York Times,

Americans eat 31 percent more packaged food than fresh food, and they consume more packaged food per person than their counterparts in nearly all other countries. A sizable part of the American diet is ready-to-eat meals, like frozen pizzas and microwave dinners, and sweet or salty snack foods.
